DAZN is the leading global sports streaming service. Created by fans, for fans, it is leading the charge to give affordable access to sport anytime, anywhere. DAZN is available on most internet-connected devices, including smart TVs, smartphones, tablets, PCs, game consoles, streaming sticks, and set-top boxes. DAZN launched in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Japan in 2016, Canada in 2017, Italy and the U.S. in 2018, and Spain and Brazil in 2019. In 2020, DAZN expanded to more than 200 countries and territories, reinforcing the commitment to becoming a global sports destination platform. The first phase of DAZN’s global expansion is an English-language service focused on boxing, building on the company’s significant investment in the sport over the past two years.
WHAT WE DID
We served as the agency of record for Perform Group for 8 years as the company developed from an online advertising platform to a powerhouse in sports media and technology. Over the course of 8 years, Perform acquired multiple brands around the globe and each time entrusting our agency to manage its communications strategy and execution in the U.S. market. Those brands included Opta (sports data for soccer industry), Sporting News (known as the bible for baseball in America), Goal.com (the largest online soccer media site), and eventually the launch of DAZN in Canada and the U.S. markets.
The launches in Canada and the U.S. were not without issue. There were technology issues with servicing so many fans in Canada at once as we launched, which required a very experienced communications professional to guide the company on how to manage this situation with press, stakeholders and fans. Also, the launch in the U.S. included the high-profile hire of an executive with a complicated past. Relying on our relationships with top press at The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg, among others, we were able to mitigate any negative press coverage and ultimately, drive very positive positioning for the company and key executives in both markets, which left a lasting impression on the industry and opened many doors for the then-burgeoning brand.
